part of my comment to you take exception? There was, indeed, NO NEW INFORMATION in this latest doc from Rachel. I am not "new" to the events of the last decade, nor am I naive about the rantings and manifestos of PNAC or the sneaky and extremely greedy oligarchs, BFEE, Cheneys, Kochs, etc.

I hadn't thought of the petrodollar aspect, so make it three whys (admittedly, there are probably more, none of them good of course). Greed, availability, and petrodollar. So, what about availibility? Maddow quotes the reason from Cheney: (Paraphrasing) "The Middle East is where the oil is." In other words, in order for Big Oil to continue to profit by $Billions into the future, they had to steal Iraq's oil because there is nowhere else for them to get it. That in itself if quite alarming considering our entire civilization is now and always will be dependent on oil.
