Actually almost all electronics were lost. They had a back up text message type thingy (I'm not a pilot) and the 1st mate first punched in that they were hijacked, then later corrected that it was no radio.
So if ccaptain here lost all nav and radio he would have been flying blind at night. If he turned around and was looking for hime he could have flown into the sea or a mountain.

I think you may be confusing the 777 with the 787. It was the 787 that had the battery problems. nt
