(31,464 posts)Used almost the same wording you did; no significant change had ever happened without serious pain for a vast number of people. That's why they drained the treasury for themselves and refuse to give any of it back; they're prepared. They're hunkering down behind their compound walls.
The huddled masses can't wrap their heads around such lofty concepts. After all, there are much more important matters for them -- finding food, finding rent money, paying for a visit to the doctor, and watching Dancing With The Stars.
The wealthy capitalists, who have strategized the end of the New Deal since the day it was enacted, can afford to think and act long-term, because their money will stay within the power structure, within their families, generation after generation. The rest are lucky to see money still in their bank accounts at the end of the week.
Meanwhile, I firmly believe the GOP realizes the serious likelihood of such a collapse, and fairly soon. Not the total downfall, but serious enough to set the dominoes toppling. Like, during 2012. Why else would such a ruthless, cutthroat party, well known for strategizing while Democrats sing Kumbaya, put forth such a ridiculous, feckless, clown-car full of candidates to face Obama? Why? Because they don't want to be blamed when this Titanic hits the iceberg.
