As it turned out, he could have used a single-shot rifle, since he only needed one shot. Still, against dangerous game, a back up is a good idea, which is why most hunting rifles hold five rounds or so. That AR looks like it's got a 20-rounder, which is actually not allowed for hunting in some states (they make 5 and 10 round magazines for those rifles for hunting in those states). Seems a bit silly to me, as it's just making the rifle a lot heavier.

That rifle fires the same round as a lot of ordinary hunting rifles (.308).

I don't hunt, myself...no interest in it. But I do understand why feral hogs have to be hunted. They're invasive species where they've been established here in North America, and they do a lot of harm to localized ecosystems. Hunting is the most "surgical" way to get rid of them, since poison to traps are much too indiscriminate.
