(45,274 posts)Not one of them was a trophy hunter, not one of them had mounted game or fish, among the family photos there were none of dead game animals or fish. Hunting & fishing were economic activities, a way of feeding your family. I haven't hunted in several years now, but I never killed an animal without a sense of both regret and gratitude. That was a value I learned from those who taught me to hunt. They were, by the way, people who lived most of their lives in the outdoors and were very conservation-minded.
If you are actually a vegan, I have no quarrel with you; you are living according to admirable principles. However, if you're just poking fun at the rubes, then you really don't know much about the people you're deriding.
There are of course the Cheneys and Nugents of the world, who have made a macho game and sick sport of the whole thing, but those people are fucked in the head in a lot of ways besides their attitudes toward hunting.
