(135,425 posts)the attention-seeking gets a little wearying.
No one was told to F you or called a "piece of shit used car salesman" in this post. The point of the OP, IMO, was to say "Ratchet down the drama." Yes, it was snarky, but sometimes people just won't stop until a mirror is held up.
And even then, sometimes they still won't stop.
Like I said, I don't think airing personal family issues on DU is such a hot idea, particularly when they're wrapped up in a flame-baity, hyperbolic and nasty OP. I also don't think I have the right to give out very personal details about my family members, particularly when there's no cloak of anonymity. It's just something that is outside my comfort zone.
But if people are going to do that, and behave in such a way that they don't just invite, but plead for attention, and are constantly starting highly volatile threads insulting POTUS and the ACA, as well as throwing around gratuitous profanities like they're being paid extra to use them, they should not be surprised if not all the attention they garner is of the "poor you" and "high five" and "right on" variety.
It's a discussion board, people are gonna discuss. It's unreasonable for a poster to lay out such a dramatic and divisive post, and not expect push-back because he CHOSE -- no one forced him -- to reveal personal information about a family member. He could have made the point without getting so specific, and he might have asked for suggestions to overcome his problem first before he started in with the frantic and nasty invective.
That kind of passion is charming in a wide-eyed college kid or a very young adult. Once you hit middle age and older, it doesn't suggest strong feelings so much as coping insufficiencies. There comes a point in time where you have to just get real, get practical, and work to solve the problem rather than pitching a tantrum.
That's my view of it, anyway. I'm sure there's plenty of mileage variation hereabouts.
