Nuns were traditional brides of Christ, wearing wedding rings as part of the habit. A lot of orders have changed things like that and the Vatican is displeased with them for it.

Women are animated flowerpots into which men plant their seed. That is church doctrine. They only very grudgingly decided we had (inferior) souls so we could be sent to hell. Aristotle and his laughable homunculus theory is what they have never progressed beyond, as they consider anything female or pertaining to sex ickydoodle. While they might have heard of assisted reproductive strategies, it doesn't fit the theory and therefore they don't like it.

I have no problem with Catholics but the Vatican is antiquated and incapable of the type of change they have needed to make. Catholics, however, are mostly sensible and practical people who realize the least capable people to make policy decisions regarding reproduction are a bunch of celibate old men.

The best things nations can do is break with Rome, following Hentry VIII's lead. The Anglican church, freed from the corruption and hide bound idiocy of an organization that is much as it was a thousand years ago, has become much better for it.
