(40,037 posts)A New York hospital is banning electronic cigarettes after a patient on oxygen was burned by a fire that erupted while she was puffing on one of the devices.
Syracuse Fire Department investigator Joe Galloway tells The Post-Standard the exact cause of last month's fire at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center has not yet been determined.
But he says the patient had a battery-powered e-cigarette, which uses a heating element to vaporize nicotine.

A grandmother was fighting for her life last night after suffering serious burns in a fire that may have been caused by her electronic cigarette, her family said.
Jean Booth, 65, was engulfed in flames after her oxygen tubes caught fire while she was being treated for breathing difficulties at the Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, according to The Sun.
She is said to have suffered life-threatening burns to her scalp and face.
Were all in total shock, a relative told The Sun. Her face is completely burnt. Its covered up with bandages. She might be blinded. Its absolutely horrendous.
