(151,210 posts)where someone might want to find information by searching on Google. Tupaloo isn't going to take someone searching for Tupelo to information about their city. It's just not.
I have no objection whatever to people posting about weather warnings on DU. I don't think it's very useful to folks living in threatened areas, since they almost certainly know bad weather is imminent already. They can look out their window, and local media is pretty good about covering such things.
But...if they do decide to search for warnings about their area, they're going to search for the proper spelling of their community. Someone living in Tupelo knows how to spell the name of their city. So, they'll search for Tupelo, not Tupaloo. So, if someone wants to warn people there, on the off chance they'll be looking on DU, spelling the city name correctly in the title of the post is important.
That's why I posted the correct spelling in that thread more than once. I don't care if someone wants to post severe weather warnings on DU, but I do care that, if they do, they spell the name of the place correctly. The correct spelling was in the NWS text in the post. It was, however, misspelled in a serious way in the thread title. Paying attention to such details is important if your goal is to alert people to a serious situation in a place.
Spelling matters, Willy. It especially matters in an emergency. Google won't show you Tupaloo if you search for Tupelo. It just wont. So, spelling matters, even on DU, in thread titles.
That's why I posted corrections.
