(8,646 posts)psychopaths. Now before anyone jumps all over me, psychopaths CAN lead good, law abiding lives if they believe it is in their best interests. There was a bit on CNN with Anderson Cooper and some researcher who said that all modern presidents (and VPs) rate very high on the psychopath scale except for Carter and Gore.
Psychopaths are known for being intensely magnetic and being able to size up a person in the blink of an eye (and play to their strengths or weaknesses, hence knowing what makes a person tick...which makes them able to make that person feel important). This same researcher said that most public personalities - especially in media and politics - are also high on the scale. He said he, himself, is rated very high but that because he has a lot of extrinsic motivation to do good in the world thanks to his parents, his community etc he grew up choosing the right path. However, he did say that sometimes he is 'empathy impaired' and this leads him to have to really think about his decisions. Another thing he mentioned is that these changed thinking patterns are visible on a brain scan...their brains really are wired differently. Interesting interview, anyhow.
