(37,540 posts)Splitting my time between the 2 places. I come here for LBN and more thoughtful conversation. I go there for more open and combative debate. It's not for the faint of heart - especially those that don't want a blunt and maybe even insulting direct response. If you don't like engaging with the mouth breathers and can't take the typical vicious personal attacks that pass for intelligent conservative debate, the place isn't for you. Me, I like to playing word jiu-jitsu with the less intelligent cons that think they are posting heavyweights.
But here's the thing. FR/CU/CC/DU are all closed communities. The ToS of all these sites want to encourage discussions by like minded people and actively remove those who disagree {much less so in DU's case, than the ideologically pure conservative sites, IMHO}. But, all have the reputation of being team oriented. Discussionist has the potential of being a real neutral site where ideas/viewpoints can be stated and debated. The value here is that unaligned, apolitical, independent type readers can see both sides discussing the issues and determine which group - cons or lib/progs - are making the better arguments. I truly hope the numbers stay roughly equal so the jury outcomes don't become a way to repress / eliminate one group or the other.
