Avtomat Kalashnikov, or Kalash for short. One thing it is definitely not is a machine gun.

I've never considered them coll and I can't say they only belong to the military. I do say one place I believe they definitely do not belong is anywhere there are children running free or people drinking alcohol and doing drugs.
