(13,184 posts)The injury to the child is the DIRECT RESULT of the police choice of tactics. The police did not have to treat that home and its residents as if they were enemy combatants. The police were executing a warrant for rinky-dink drug sales. They had plenty of options other than going in like gangbusters.
I remember when it used to be: "The place is surrounded. Come out with your hands up."
We don't need law enforcement acting like thugs, and you know as well as I do that there is an endless litany of them doing just that, and we certainly don't need apologetics for their thuggery.
As for punishing the criminal, as far as I can tell, the owner of the house (the family of the injured child were visitors) has been charged with a drug sales offense. Not convicted. And there were no drugs there, only "residue." Amazingly enough, according to CNN, prosecutors said "Thonetheva could also be charged in connection with the baby's injuries." That is mind-bogglingly brazen.
