(1,145 posts)based on outward appearance since someone's genetic makeup can't be seen. There are a helluva lot of white people walking around today with some Black genes from the not-so-distant past (technically, every human has African genetics going back far enough) but have no idea those genes are there. Tiger Woods discovered that his "Cablinasian" genetics didn't count for much after Fuzzy Zoeller made the fried chicken joke about him - wake up call for Tiger lol!
The future for this country is definitely getting browner (as is the world), but I don't really think there will be much of a revenge factor when that happens. As you know, we are a very forgiving and patient people as far as the past goes, and despite hundreds of years of horrible treatment, I don't think there is a strong impulse in the Black community to get revenge for what was done to us. Now I think that many whites have a fear that eventual revenge is on the table for the future, but I think that comes from guilt (i.e., knowing you've wronged someone and fearing they want to return the favor).
I feel you on the anxiety thing - I feel that sometimes myself. There can be a whole academic industry built around studying the effects of racism and its long-term effects on Black people. It's a constant irritation and annoyance that white people simply don't have to deal with during their everyday lives.
