His house used a LOT of energy, but comparable to other large homes in his area in TN. Since then, he's installed solar panels and done some other things, so it uses less than other large homes in his area.

It will always use more power than the avg home because it's a mansion and much larger than the avg home. I'd argue that having a mansion is unnecessary, but that's a different issue.
