Specifically, registered trademark.

The Washington Redskins aren't prevented from continuing to use the name. What was lost is the exclusivity to the name. Now, it would behoove the team to change their name since they won't be able to control unlicensed use of the name. For instance, one could now start selling hats and t-shirts with the name "Redskins" on them and there isn't anything the team could do to stop it.
