My parents owned a couple and the last one, a Pontiac 6000, they sold to me when my own car was totaled in an accident. It was the same car I had learned to drive on, lol. By then it had 250,000 kms on it, and it still had not needed any repairs. After I owned it for a few years (And closing in on 300,000 kms), my mechanic neighbor asked me if I was willing to sell it to him. I wasn't really thinking about it, but he wanted to pay more than book value, so I thought, why not? It's getting old...we needed a newer, bigger car (for the kids). After we sold it, the mechanic said that he had been looking for a 6000 because that was the one car him and his coworkers mentioned they hardly ever worked on them. He said the motor is good for at least 700,000 kms. Best motor ever made, he said. I thought he was exaggerating, but my aunt also had a 6000 and hers made it to 800,000 kms with no major issues (she sold it because, like me, she needed something bigger for her kids).
I currently own a Chevy Uplander and I've had nothing but problems. I have 75,000 kms on it (47,000 miles approx.) and I've been spending $2-3,000 a year on repairs. Major repairs. I'm so disgusted with Chevy because of it. I've searched online and nearly everyone has the same issues I do, but no recalls for us because for the most part, it's the small things that keep breaking down. The automatic door doesn't work in the cold, the rear wiper keeps crapping out, the entertainment system and radio speakers have been gone for a long time and we paid extra for it (no point in repairing, can't afford it - bought this 'luxury' when I was with my husband and had money. Now divorced and a single parent, so must decide on the needed repairs) my ABS harnesses need constant replacement, the steering column has been replaced twice, my ball joints keep getting loose, rear suspension needs replacing - again...and on and on. It makes me sad, because other than the constant repairs, it's the perfect vehicle for me and my kids...and they don't make minivans anymore. I guess my next car will be an SUV.
I don't know what brand my next car will be. The Uplander has soured me on Chev. I don't know what I'm going to do.
