(17,656 posts)Like your dad, my dad served in WWII as a young man who was drafted and who did not grow up thinking that he would ever serve in the military.
He supported the formation of Israel after WWII, and he hardly ever criticized anything they did for the next 30 years.
He didn't particularly like Golda Meir very much, but he gave her credit for keeping the country together at a critical time in their history.
The fact that Netanyahu thinks that he is "in the right" or "has the right" for the shelling of the Gaza Strip only proves how much the people of the Middle East hate each other . . unto death.
Israel will survive Netanyahu, but they need to crank him down a few notches until he is replaced.
I don't think the next president of Israel will be as hardline right as Netanyahu is.
The UN may have to ultimately step in and enforce a cease fire.
