every town/precinct has a local Democratic committee. Join it. When you say "The DNC is coopted." you're talking about an organization made up of people from local committees.

It's really easy to change the system if you can get 10 people to start showing up for the Democratic Town Committee meeting...in most places, that's a bloc sufficient to control the town committee on things like choosing delegates to the state committee. It's enough to be largely in control of the local platform. If you did it in your town and another liberal DUer did it in their adjacent town and another did it in their town and so on...you'd have a groundswell. You'd be positioned to vote on the membership and delegates of the state committee to the DNC and control the platform at the state committee. Those delegates write the national platform and steer the DNC.

What Willy is suggesting is good and important...but it's only half the solution...and it's the harder half. It'd be easy using large political group-sites like DU and DKos to build coalitions to radically resteer the DNC. Nationally, it would only take about 10000 DUers organizing joiners to their local committee. That seems like a lot, but it's not...it's less than 5% of the daily users here.
