In reply to the discussion: How much homework for a child is too much? My grand daughter spends at least four hours on [View all]avebury
(11,193 posts)7. It has to be hard to levy the same amount of
homework to all children since different children have different abilities. A friend of mine was telling me about the list of words that her son was given for a school year. He is pretty smart and could have completed the entire list within a couple of weeks. Children need to be kept challenged but not beaten down.

It varies from day to day, but not less than two hours. I should amend to say up to four hours.

taught for 30 years. 20 minutes a night and doesn't count a half hour to an hour just reading

I suppose anything is possible, but it's unlikely to have copying large sections of a book.

Our K-8 school had a philosophy of 10 minutes per grade, so a 6th grader would have 60 minutes
