When Dyna said that "there are pretty much only two ways" to get banned...

...he was accurately characterizing what has happened here since the beginning. But we did not ever make a decision that those two ways are "The List" and that no one could ever get banned for any other reason. In a way, it might be more accurate to say that "The List" made itself -- those are the two reasons that keep coming up over and over again. But they are not the only two reasons why anyone will ever get banned from Discussionist. In fact we have already had at least one person in the past who was banned for a completely different reason -- I don't want to go into details or draw attention to it, other than to say that what that person did was similarly vile to what The Doctor did and they got banned for it.

So yes, if he had not created a sockpuppet the content of The Doctor's posts would have been grounds for banning. We certainly don't want Discussionist to be a place where someone can make threatening posts, and then keep coming back to do it over and over again. Fortunately, that has not been a problem so far. If it ever does become a problem, we'll absolutely deal with it.
