(68,414 posts)are available to serve on them.
I used to decline the request to serve about as often as I accepted it, because I always take the time to read either the whole thread or, if it is an endless monster thread, at least enough of it to make sure I know what has led to the alerted post. Sometimes I am just too tired or don't really want to spend that much time and energy on jury duty.
But after serving on two juries when it was evident that the poster being alerted on was being alert-stalked over completely innocuous posts, and then seeing how outrageously close the results were to leave the post, even though it should have been a 7-0 decision to leave it alone, I decided that I owed it to those being alert-stalked to serve whenever I was asked, simply to do my part to protect them from unfair hides that could lead to their being suspended for 3 months.
(BTW, one of the unfair alerts I juried for was on a perfectly inoffensive post by nadin, who has been one of the most bullied and alert-stalked people on DU. I am not surprised that she has largely withdrawn from participating in discussions on DU. I don't know her personally, not even in an online kind of way, but I have been on DU for 10 years, and I pay attention. Certain people have been truly awful to her.)
