(19,537 posts)Just as I'm not sure that Warren wants to be put on the pedestal now by announcing she's running, if she really has that in the back of her head, I don't think she wants to be a visible target on the pedestal by going after Israel now, and diluting her efforts to go after the banks that she's spending a lot of time leading those efforts within the Senate and elsewhere.
She's a human being and can't be doing everything at once. She needs more people aligned with her to divide and conquer on these various issues. I think that if she were to get elected, she'd have a Secretary of State that would do a lot more to push Netanyahu in to a corner to demand that settlements be stopped, a peace process be pursued if they want to get more aid from us. I think given that this isn't her specialty area of knowledge just yet, as opposed to her understanding of economic issues that affect us, I think she's smart in trying to take the vanilla stance, as much as many of us don't care for it now, to avoid getting pigeon holed. There will be a time (I hope soon!) when speaking out against Israel (or more specifically Netanyahu's government, and not Israel in general if they can get better leadership soon!) is something that more politicians are able to do and not be punished for it, and that is the time I expect her to join us in a more demanding approach to fix the situation there. It's up for us as grass roots movements, etc. to start making AIPAC's life difficult here in the U.S., and to help shut down the money train they have that buys too many of our pols...
