(25,699 posts)There are options beyond "the president is infallible" and "doing nothing at all."
Do you think throwing money and weapons at Syrian "rebels" is going to do anything to stop IS?
Do you think toppling the Syrian government, thus ensuring several years of even bloodier civil war, is going to bring peace to the region?
Do you think ignoring Syrian sovereignty to attack where we want within that country, is going to bring people to our side?
Do you think that bombing Mosul all over again, or Falluja all over again, is doing to discredit and weaken IS?
These are some key components of the president's plan. And they're garbage. Drek. Junk. Shit. At least, if the stated goal - dealing with IS - is the actual goal.
This doesn't invalidate the whole of the plan - holding gulf states accountable for their funding is a great idea (though "idea" it will remain, because we're not ever actually going to penalize the Saudis.) making the Iraqis the "Front line" of the operation, another good move.
Now, it IS a complicated issue, and there are no "perfect" solutions. But these flaws are so glaringly obvious that anyone can see them. And just to nip your special pleading in the bud, no, there is no amount of magical secret president-only knowledge that will make a policy of obliterating Syria a maneuver towards stability in this conflict.
