(82,849 posts)Some people might want to be on the clock literally 24-7, which in Grothman's mind makes it imperative that everyone has to do that. Sure, some of you might not want to work seven days a week, but then that will quickly mean that you can't earn enough to live on, because wages will be set so for the benefit of only the most zealous, dedicated, Type A personalities. If that's not you, then you don't "deserve" a living wage.
Is that crazy talk? Well, my observation from my entire working career going back to 1980 is that I am expected to work more hours more efficiently to generate Wealth for the economy, but none of that increased Wealth makes it back to my pocket in the form of higher wages. American workers must work more, and work more efficiently, for less and less money. I don't remember when workers were asked to sign on to this hare-brained scheme, but since it's been the Iron Law of Wages for the past 35 years, we must have approved of it somewhere along the line. Grothman is just continuing a noble tradition.
