What about Islamic culture today? It would seem to me that if Rumi had a lasting effect, then others would spring up with more of the same because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and also because creativity depends mightily on it. Standing on the shoulders of giants and all that.

Of course American culture is decadent in some ways. But the concept of love is strong in our culture. It does not appear to be the same in Islamic cultures and I think that's a key part of what separates us.
