In reply to the discussion: What Halloween candy did you really not like? [View all]Heidi
(58,846 posts)95. I have some that we bought in the US in December 2011.
They are definitely stale, and most certainly chewy. I'm not sure why they're still in the cabinet, except as--perhaps--an experiment about which I've since forgotten. When I saw this thread, I took them out and took a whiff. The aroma has not dissipated. It very much reminds me of a liquid medicine Mom gave us (1970s) for stomach ailments like intestinal flu. I will be the first to amit that the scent triggers less-than-pleasant memories.
I'm glad you enjoy them, though, and I hope I haven't put a ding in your enjoyment of circus peanut, seaglass.

Candy corn is also damn crappy but not quite as nasty as the circus peanuts

Lewis Black thinks that there hasn't been any new candy corn made since the 1920's.

I have never met many who liked it. Those that did, were strange folks in many other ways.

I've never liked Tootsie Rolls. They're weirdly gummy and flavorless.

Not much worse than stale candy corn. Actually, I sorta like fresh candy corn, but

I don't know what they were called, but they were wrapped in either black or orange waxed

Back in the 60's there must have been a big sale on candy cigarettes called "spook sticks".
