It is being a less hostile enemy that is tactically forced to deal with me later when their attention can be more focused.

Hey, I understand every friend is not your best winding all the way down to associates but you get on the shit list when all you have to offer is "You see that hateful fucking dumpsterfire over there that has been trying to kill you from jump?" "I won't fuck over as much as they will so I hope I can consider you a friend".

Net negative is net negative. You can go deeper in the hole but at a certain point, it is too deep to get out of either way.
