42. So many politicians putting their cushy perk-filled jobs and continued power ahead of principle

and true service. I keep waiting for a politician who comes into office saying he/she doesn't care about popularity polls and won't put concern about being re-elected above doing what's right. I keep waiting for a politician who doesn't want politics to be their permanent profession but only a means to helping society.

I would love to see a Senator come into office and tell the public they won't be swayed at all about any polls, they won't spend even ten seconds raising money while in office, they won't spend even ten seconds talking to a lobbyist and won't even let a lobbyist through the front door, and they won't sell their soul by supporting bad legislation just because it might save their job. They would tell the public they absolutely will not seek re-election beyond the first term and tell their constituents to vote against them if they let power go to their head and do seek re-election.
