I understand the rage. A man died after being rudely accosted by a police officer because he was jaywalking while black.

I will agree that the state should prosecute the protesters who commit crimes if it gives the same regard to those protesters that it gave to Officer Wilson, presenting ALL the evidence to the Grand Jury, not asking for specific charges, spending enormous resources on forensics and numerous witness interviews.

It's called equal protection under law and it is enshrined in the Constitution. The State should follow its own rules.
