(13,390 posts)Women are more likely to follow rules and generally less inclined to take such risks. It has biological and social roots.
more likely clearly does not presume all or never.
You have to consider that the rules are different for men and women in the first place.
Things that were considered rebellious for women for most of the 20th century:
Getting an education
Participating in sports. Particularly those involving physical risk.
Working
Not marrying
Divorce
Not having children
Trying to own property, have credit under her name, etc.
And of course, sex before marriage
Many people are still not ready to accept women in male dominated professions.
All of the above, have been pretty much always accepted for men either under male entitlement or "boys will be boys" permission. The assumptions that drove those mores are still present in American culture and some of those behaviors are still considered rebellious for women by some.
Men and women both do it, but they do it differently. Mostly because what qualifies as rebellion is different for men and women. When men rebel it is often much more extreme because they have to go farther to break rules.
