In reply to the discussion: I am noticing a lot of full-blown denial over Obama calling torturers "patriots" on DU. [View all]TM99
(8,352 posts)His speech let those men off the hook. He is simply another enabler to this whole sordid affair of post 911 politics.
And yes, actually he needs every fucking one of the 'little gnats' picking away at his choice of words. He is not perfect, a super hero, a Caesar, etc. He is an elected official who made campaign speeches against post 911 politics and then embraced, extended, and in some cases amplified them during his tenure in office.
Obama is actually the worst kind of evil as portrayed in his words - mealy mouthed, duplicitous, and passive. The torture that was done is no different than what occurred in Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia. It is against international laws, treaties, and conventions. Those who ordered it, enabled it, engaged in it, and justified it should have been prosecuted and still should be.
Instead, we get another Obama speech - this time he is lecturing us on being sanctimonious.
Fuck him.
