and the women are raised to buy into this as they're raised to be wives and mothers. From what I've read, considering all the rules around menstruation and sex it appears to me that there's a limited time every month they can have sexual relations - and it wouldn't surprise me if it coincides with when she's most fertile. Several kids per ultra-orthodox family is normal.
