21. My doctor thought my first pregnancy was an ectopic pregnancy. It was terrifying facing that issue.

At the time I could have gotten an abortion quickly enough to save my life. With the new abortion laws here in Ohio, they may not be able to act quickly enough to save a woman's life. Fortunately for me, it was just a rip roaring urinary tract infection treatable with massive doses of antibiotics.

However, I almost died from complications from the delivery for my babies. After the last one, my Ob-gyn said if I got pregnant again it would kill me. I spent ten years dreading every period and in near panic, if I was late for a period. My doc said I was not a candidate for a tubal ligation due to other health issues. It was a great relief when I finally had to have a hysterectomy. The only thing that kept me somewhat sane was the fact that the abortion option was safe, easy to obtain and legal. Now the laws are so draconian that it makes it very hard to get even a medically necessary abortion in Ohio.

I miss Molly Ivins so very much. Her voice is greatly missed.
