I know the use of the term "illegal" is common, hell I can remember when wetback was not considered that offensive. And you are well within your bounds to use whatever terminology you want, but the fact is MANY people use that term in a racist and derogatory manner. I suspect the alert and subsequent hide was less about a white guy telling a Mexican what is racist than a progressive being justifiably offended by a term that is known to be used as a put down.

You don't owe anybody here anything but you might give that some thought. The line between condescending (white) privilege and actual good intentioned misunderstanding can be vague. I don't know the motives of the person who alerted on you, nor of the jury members who voted, but I do know it was just one thread and many of us have had a heck of a lot more than a couple of hidden posts. Most get over the frustration and continue on.
