No, Republicans hate Carter because he understood that the measure of a nation isn't its treasury or military, but its citizenry. And in my opinion, he was the last president who not only got that, but actually applied it. i think Obama 'gets it," but he's so snared up in "politics as usual" where guns and gold rule the day that actually implementing hte ideal doesn't seem terribly forthcoming.
