But the Reagan campaign squashed it - actually told Iran's leaders to KEEP the hostages until after the election, because Carter would have won if he had managed to get them home. Did nobody find it at least a little bit odd that the hostages were released at practically the same moment that Reagan was being inaugurated? "Hold 'em until I'm in office, and I'll make you RICH, and sell you some weapons (from ISRAEL, no less!) besides!"

And later on in his Presidency, when Henry Hyde pushed a budget amendment through making it illegal for the President to use federal funds to finance the South American Death Squads, he and his CIA pals put together the "Drugs for Guns" deal, and essentially CREATED the Crack addiction epidemic.

So, as Stephen Colbert would ask: "Great President, or the GREATEST President?"
