(61,033 posts)Executive agreements facilitating commerce, trade and other operating theaters are common between nations and have been negotiated by our executive branches routinely over the years both Democratic and Republican.
This one is not just between the US and Iran as there are also 5 other nations involved. Just imagine how difficult it would be to reach an agreement if the legislative bodies of all these nations were demanding approval, especially with nut job rookies like Cotton doing the clamoring.
Constitutionally this has always been executive branch purview speaking in one voice for the nation and not the place for multiple voices, especially 2-month experienced rookie voices with agendas clearly driven by a meddling prime minister of a foreign nation.
Again, it's not a treaty requiring Congressional approval.
