I lived in a small city where some residents wanted to disband the PD. Petitions were signed and it was put on the ballot for the residents of the city to vote on. If it had been successful, policing services would have been contracted out to the county.

The city of Pontiac Michigan had both their police and fire services dissolved by an appointed city manager. Policing services went to the county sheriff dept -and fire services were contracted out to the neighboring town
