A Basque separatist attempted to assassinate the King of Spain in 1997; there was the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II; someone shot at Jacques Chirac during the Bastille Day parade in 2002, there was an attempt on the lives of the Dutch royal family in 2009...in addition to the others already mentioned.
