(19,240 posts)At the time, troops were refusing anthrax vaccine--which limited the military's ability to weaponize it. As an FP, I had patients entreating me to write them letters exempting them from anthrax vaccination on health grounds. It was very controversial among the troops. The Pentagon responded by creating a pr campaign targeting doctors, telling them "Anthrax kills" so that they would stop advising their patients against the vaccine.Their pr campaign was a big flop.
I have always (as in from day one) believed that it was the Pentagon which mailed the anthrax. Their ploy worked. Suddenly, the troops agreed to get vaccinated.
The facts that 1) the anthrax used was a weaponized form that would be hard to get and 2) the FBI would not let them DNA test saliva found on one of the envelops confirms my suspicion. Who had the most to gain from the anthrax mailings? Our own military. Who would the FBI want to protect? Our military. Who commonly conducts biologic weapons tests on the US public? Our military.
