37. It's not a matter of 'how many pages', it's a matter of how many people are hitting it.

If you're already getting too many people hitting the site for the load you can handle, you don't want them to stay on the site hitting more pages.

10 people hitting 1 page, 10 clicks minimum. 10 people hitting 10 pages, 100 clicks minimum. Now add a bunch of zeroes onto that to get what's probably happening. Of course, the worst of the problem is only going to happen in spurts, and right at site open is the worst time, since that's when everybody wants to see what's there. We had the same sort of problem every time the New York Film Festival opened using our website, because they insisted on telling the public exactly what time tickets went on sale rather than just a date, and everybody and their brother was trying to buy tickets for films at exactly the same minute.
