Many of my family live in rural Pennsylvania. They have jobs and they own homes, and are generally doing okay. But, in an area where the nearest supermarket is 8 miles away, not having a car is not an option. "Move," you say. Mind you, they live in a part of the state where real estate values have been severely depressed for decades. The so-called "real estate bubble" managed to bypass them entirely. So fine, they sell their homes for whatever meager price they can get for them, and move to more expensive areas and have very little to show for it, and as a result be that much poorer. Your prescription is simplistic and clueless.
