But Ted Cruz and Rick Santorum are big promoters of the religious philosophy.

Santorum is close personal friends of Erik Prince and much of the funding of his 2012 campaign cme from the Devos/Prince connection.

Look into "Dutch Mafia" in Western Michigan and how James Dobson's focus on the Family came to be so widely promoted and given a presence on the Political Stage.

OP isn't asking for an end to Religion - he's asking for an end to the Dominionist Political Theory on the National Stage.

Can we not defend ourselves from those who call for our oppression and death?

There is a time to turn one's cheek - there is a time for defense.

It's an early November morning and Ted Cruz wins the White House and has a heavily Dominionist House ad Republican Senate.

Scary huh? The Blackwater guy is now running America. Because that IS who would be running things.
