23. People are crazier, stupider, and delusional enough to do this, believe me....

...I know it's easier and more palatable to suspect their motives or view them as not legit. Because it's embarrassing to think of anyone in any minority group being that, well, blindly foolish. But if there's anything I've learned since Bush took office, it's that people can be that idiotic and self-destructive. Consider those dirt poor idiots who insist that the "south will rise again!" And so keep voting against their own interests, against the party that would better their lives, all in hopes of winning that one magical lottery that the other side seems to promise them.

The evidence against their belief doesn't matter. I mean, the GOP has effectively said to the Cabin Boys here that they're not allowed to participate. There's a "Heterosexuals only" sign and they have to sit elsewhere. Yet there the Log Cabinites remain as fierce and faithful to the GOP as kicked dogs. This is nothing, alas, new. It's the unshakable belief that if they hang in there, prove themselves, then one day they will be welcomed into that 1% country club. The Democrats can't promise them a place in that special club. So no matter what abuse they have to take, they will take it. Because what they really want only the GOP can give them. And the truth, that the GOP won't ever let them in, is impossible for them to accept or see.
