Jim Bob's single statement referring to a "tough time in his family" referred only to the damning secret getting out. He quickly squelched any further professional notice by letting the statue of limitations run out. That meant the youngest was likely 8 years old by that time. And who knows what happened after that.

I think there is a reason that, at this time, no other male was involved in these actions. Of course they all know about it, but somehow it seems to only be taboo to the "lesser" sons. But, we may find out differently, god help us.
