8. I did see one Facebook post by a conservative Catholic on my feed

who posted an article by a gay Catholic man who had chosen a life of celibacy and said that his attraction to men was the message from God that he should be celibate. The article was not specifically about the Irish vote, but she referenced the vote when she posted the article.

I said that if God wanted to send a message that he should be celibate, why would God make him attracted to anybody? That doesn't appear to be the message God was sending at all. Attraction to men = message that you should date men. It seems like a very simple and clear message.

I don't understand how people think something can be a message from God when it clearly contradicts the message. They're so obviously simply justifying the prejudices they already had, and not looking for messages at all.
