(19,502 posts)I was worried about depression since I'll live by myself when I get out (children dropping in for first week perhaps), so I asked my surgeon yesterday and he said that's relative rare (5% chance).
I'm pretty hardened for 68 years old. I've had chest surgery (removal of large cyst), a heart attack (with insertion of stent) and lung surgery, not to mention two other stints in the hospital. Mostly in the last few years. It seems I had the energy of someone ten years younger than myself until I turned 62 or so, then the wheels started coming off the cart. I can't complain. And I've been able to do a lot.
(By the way, I've been a vegetarian for 25 years and jogged from 35 to 60 years old, but my genetics were bad. My dad, who had a much worst lifestyle, had a heart attack at 70. Mine was at 67, last May in fact.)
