7. I'm generally opposed to boycotting a state in response to the bad actions of some of its members

I think that visiting the state and reaching out to those people in the state who aren't crazy is a better approach.

But South Carolina has such a history of insanity and cruelty that I can't imagine ever wanting to go there. And I don't understand why anybody else would either; I guess if you grew up there, that's understandable. But it's a mess.
