(57,596 posts)Is that news that I personally think is nationally/globally important and worthy of heavy coverage can differ greatly from news you, the OP, some basement dwellers on Reddit, or anyone else thinks is most important; and that's perfectly fine -- Seven billion people walk the planet, and there are seven billion versions of reality...
Now that you bring up millenials evolving the defition of propaganda, I'm a bit curious as a former reporter... Do they honestly believe we come to work in the morning searching for smokescreen stories so we can *not* cover a major controversial issue being batted around congress?
I will let you in on one trade secret...Ratings are king baby, and all things being equal, American broadcast news coverage will always default to the simple, easy-to-understand stories, because that is what draws viewers...
Mass shootings? Easy to comprehend and easier for commentators to discuss how its tragic, violence is wrong, etc.
Plane crashes? Easy...
Weather/industrial disasters, earthquakes, abducted children? Easy, easy, easy...
Immigration? Difficult, since it is a hot topic issue, and there are no simple solutions.
Healthcare? Hard
Poverty? It's easy to *show* poor people, but God help you once you start diving into the discussion about *why* they are poor...
Abortion? Easy-- Yeah it's hot topic, but also very polarizing so everyone has an opinion one way or the other...
Celebrity sex scandals? Same as above
Racial issues? Same as above...
Riots? Ratings goldmine
And so on...
